Terry Waltz, Ph.D. is a polyglot, translator/interpreter and presenter who trains teachers to use Comprehensible Input-based techniques. She earned a doctorate in Applied Linguistics (Foreign Language Education) from the University of Texas at Austin and is the author of “TPRS with Chinese Characteristics”, twenty-odd readers specially designed for emergent second language readers of various languages, and the Zhongwen Bu Mafan! CI Chinese curriculum.
Arguably the first teacher to apply Comprehensible Input to the systematic teaching of Chinese language and literacy, Terry’s unique contributions to the field include Cold Character literacy for non-Roman alphabet L2 reading, the TOP system of tonal spelling, and directional gestures for reinforcement of tone knowledge and performance.
